Scenes From The Cross
During the valentines meeting of our junior youth, I wanted to get
across to the kidz how much Jesus loves them, so after a lively
time of praise, we entered into worship, and I used our multimedia
projector to play footage from the "Matthew video" of
Jesus dying on the cross, while at the same time playing a song by
Doug Horley, called "What love is this". It was an
awesome time, and many kidz were in tears as they saw what Jesus
went thru for them. Afterwards about 50 of the 60 came forward to
publicly tell Jesus how much they love Him - their prayer were
powerful. This idea would also work really well at Easter time.
Have the children list ways that people show them their love.
Assist them in thinking of things like helping them, giving them a
card or gift, taking care of them when their sick, giving
them food and clothes and a house to live in, talking with them,
praying with them, reading the Bible to them, being kind, etc.
Ask which of these ways the children can show love back to people.
(help them, make a card or gift, visit them if sick, talk to them,
pray with them, be kind) Explain to the children that God
want s them to show love to people just like people have shown
them--or like He shows love to them. Pick a few children and
allow them to ask God to help them show love in one ways (Tell
each person one of the listed ways before he or she prays.)
Talk about things that the children like, i.e. clothes, TV shows,
games, desserts, etc. Most children like cookies. Show
the different types of cookies. There are many different
types of cookies. Some have nuts, some have fruit, some have
chocolate, and others have cream filling. Children like all
kinds of cookies. In fact, cookies are a child's favorite
snack. Compare the cookies to children. There are many
different types of children who live in many different parts of
the world. Have the children name different places children
live. Jesus loves all kinds of people. When Jesus was
on earth, He was a friend to the children. He said to let
the children come to Him. Jesus loves each child. It
doesn't matter where they live or what they look like, Jesus loves
them. That means that Jesus loves each child here.
Pass out the cookies to eat. As the children eat the
cookies, remind them that just as children love all kinds of
cookies, Jesus loves all kinds of children. Jesus loves each
